Since 2014 ACT has facilitated the placement of over 500 retiring thoroughbreds for over 100 owners and trainers at Charles Town Races. There is no denying that these incredible athletes give their all. The heart of a racehorse is beyond compare. ACT's goal is to help these horses transition into their next chapter through careful let down, rehabilitation, retraining and responsible placement.

Aftercare looks different for each horse based on their needs.

For some being a pasture pal is the best fit.

For others their high drive and work ethic makes them outstanding in competitive careers.

A lighter career is a perfect fit for horses with some physical limitations.

Most of all they have all have a lot of love to give and deserve to enjoy the same in return.

Mission

Our mission is to facilitate the responsible re-homing of thoroughbred racehorses that have raced at Charles Town Races. We assist the Charles Town horsemen by insuring these retiring athletes are placed in appropriate homes. Through careful evaluation during our rehabilitation and or let down process we get to know these incredible horses and place them with one of our partner organizations that best fit their specific needs for adoption or sanctuary placement. Every horse deserves a second chapter, and that looks different for each of them. We pride ourselves on finding placements for horses that can be competitive show horses, light riding horses, pasture palls, therapy horses, and even recipient mares. ACT and our partner organizations provide a lifetime safety net for theses amazing animals. This helps reduce the number of horses that are at risk of ending up in unsafe situations post racing. It also provides the horsemen peace of mind knowing that we are here to advocate for the horses.
