We Bring Visibility and Protection to Retired Thoroughbred Broodmares

Mareworthy Charities is a Kentucky-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection, retirement, and rehoming of Thoroughbred broodmares.

Founded in 2022, Mareworthy was created to address a growing gap in Thoroughbred aftercare: safe, long-term solutions for mares retiring from breeding careers. While many aftercare efforts focus on racehorses coming directly off the track, Mareworthy specializes in supporting mares who are often overlooked once their commercial value declines.

Today, Mareworthy provides sanctuary, placement assistance, and educational outreach designed to improve outcomes for vulnerable mares while promoting greater industry awareness surrounding broodmare retirement and lifetime responsibility.

Mareworthy is an accredited organization through the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and has been recognized as a grant recipient of the Thoroughbred Charities of America. The organization works collaboratively with farms, adopters, veterinarians, and industry stakeholders to help create sustainable retirement pathways for Thoroughbred mares beyond their breeding careers.

Support through Gallop for Good directly helps provide feed, hay, veterinary care, farrier services, rehabilitation, and daily support for mares in Mareworthy’s care.
