New Beginnings Thoroughbreds (NBT)

New Beginnings Thoroughbreds (NBT) is an accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing Thoroughbred racehorses with safe, supported transitions into life beyond the racetrack. Through rehabilitation, retraining, adoption, and lifelong advocacy, NBT works to ensure every off-the-track Thoroughbred (OTTB) in our care is given the opportunity to thrive in their next chapter. Since our inception, NBT has successfully placed more than 55 thoroughbreds into approved homes and currently provides care for approximately 5-10 horses annually.

Many horses retiring from racing require time to decompress, recover physically and/or rehabilitate, and are looking for their next step. At NBT, we take a whole-horse approach to aftercare, focusing not only on physical rehabilitation, but also on each horse’s mental and emotional well-being. Horses in our program receive individualized care plans that may include veterinary and therapeutic treatments, diagnostics, nutritional support, groundwork, and retraining.

Our goal is to prepare every horse for the future that best suits their individual needs and abilities. NBT horses have gone on to successful second careers in disciplines including hunter/jumper, dressage, eventing, trail riding, pleasure, therapeutic programs, companion homes, and more. For horses who may not remain rideable, we also advocate for safe and responsible placement through our Pasture Partner Program, with carefully selected companion and sanctuary-style homes.

Beyond adoption, we are committed to supporting both horses and adopters for the long term. Whether someone is an experienced equestrian or welcoming their first Off-Track Thoroughbred, our team works closely with adopters throughout the process to help create safe, successful, and lasting matches.
