Established in 2009, the Thoroughbred Retirement Network of Louisiana was formed to provide a safety net for retiring racehorses in Louisiana and the surrounding region. TRNL prides itself in providing quality rehabilitation, retraining and rehoming for thoroughbreds whether they are retiring directly from the racetrack, coming from owners, breeders or trainers or being rescued from feedlots or killpens. We value the life of every thoroughbred regardless of whether they can offer a second career after racing or whether they're more suited to be a companion or sanctuary horse.

Our horses have competed at USEA National Championships, USDF Region 9 Championships and the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) Championships (and won) and have competed regularly in local and regional shows including those in the Southern Eventing and Dressage Association (SEDA). TRNL horses have served as therapy horses (i.e., New Heights Therapy Center, Folsom, Louisiana) and have been adopted by riding programs as well as show barns. However, the most important factor when we do adopt, is that there is a great match between adopter and adoptee.

Recently, we have teamed up with several other organizations across the country and work with them collaboratively as the Thoroughbred Rescue Alliance to assist with the rescue of thoroughbreds in feedlots and killpens.

100% of donations go directly to the care of the horses. We have no paid administrative positions.

Mission

The Mission of the Thoroughbred Retirement Network of Louisiana (TRNL) is threefold:

1) To offer the owners, breeders and trainers of Thoroughbred racehorses a full service retraining, retirement and respite facility so that these horses may be retrained and/or rehomed without the risk of being raced again or used for inhumane purposes.

2) To rescue Thoroughbreds who have been neglected, harmed, abused or who are at risk of going to slaughter.

3) To educate the public as well as those in the racing industry about the responsibilities of owning Thoroughbreds, ways in which owners, breeders and trainers can enhance the likelihood that their Thoroughbreds will retire successfully and purposefully, and to teach others about about retraining ex-racers.

It is the hope of the TRNL to retrain and rehome many retiring Thoroughbreds. We are committed to establishing a quality foundation for each horse with whom we work and are focused on understanding the needs of each individual.
